A major in Chemistry leading to the B.A. degree consists of a minimum of 32 semester hours of chemistry and must include the following core courses: CHEM 1251, 1251L, 1252, 1252L (or 1253L), 2125, 2131, 2131L, 2132, 2132L (or 2136L), 2141, 3111, 3695, 4695, 4696, and three hours of chemistry electives. The three chemistry elective hours may be selected from CHEM 3112, 3113, 3141, 3141L, 3142, 3142L, 4111, 4121, 4133, 4134, 4135, 4165, 4165L, 4166, 4167, 4171, 4175, 4200 or another chemistry course specifically approved for this purpose. Related work in mathematics and physics must include MATH 1241, 1242, PHYS 1101 (or 2101), 1101L (or 2101L), 1102 (or 2102), and 1102L (or 2102L).
Students pursuing the B.A. degree are welcome and encouraged to take CHEM 4900, but this course will not satisfy the chemistry elective requirement. Students may substitute CHEM 4121 for CHEM 2125, or CHEM 3141 or 3142 for CHEM 2141, but only with Departmental approval.
Students majoring in chemistry who are planning future studies in medicine, dentistry, or other allied health professions are urged to consult as early as possible with UNC Charlotte’s Pre-Health Advisor, Dr. Elizabeth Hanie , in addition to consulting with their academic advisor(s) for their majors(s).
