B.A. in Chemistry for Students Seeking Secondary Teaching Licensure

Degree Requirements

The B.A. degree in chemistry can be tailored to meet North Carolina requirements for secondary (grades 9-12) teaching licensure in Chemistry. Students must complete at least 33 semester hours of chemistry that must include the following courses: CHEM 1251, 1251L, 1252, 1252L, 2131, 2131L, 2132, 2132L, 2125, 2141, 3111, 3695, 4165, 4165L, 4695, and 4696. Students must also complete eight hours of physics (PHYS 1101, 1101L, 1102, 1102L), six hours of calculus (MATH 1241 and 1242), and four hours of a biology or earth science/geology course with laboratory (BIOL 1110 + 1110L or GEOL 1200 + 1200L).

Students seeking teaching licensure should consult with a co-advisor in the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education in the College of Education for detailed planning of their professional education coursework. Licensure applications are the responsibility of the student and the Office of Student Academic Services in the College of Education.
